Special Abilities

Smoke Claws (Ex): A belker in smoke form (see below) can engulf opponents by moving on top of them. It fills the air around one Medium or smaller opponent without provoking an attack of opportunity. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Fortitude save or inhale part of the creature. The save DC is Constitution-based. Smoke inside the victim solidifies into a claw and begins to rip at the surrounding organs, dealing 3d4 points of damage per round. An affected creature can attempt another Fortitude save each subsequent round to cough out the semivaporous menace.

Smoke Form (Su): Most of the time a belker is more or less solid, but at will it can assume smoke form. It can switch forms once per round as a free action and can spend up to 20 rounds per day in smoke form. A belker in smoke form can fly at a speed of 50 feet (perfect). The ability is otherwise similar to a gaseous form spell (caster level 7th).

Skills: Belkers have a +4 racial bonus on Stealth checks.

Strategies and Tactics

Belkers usually attack their prey directly with their claws and bite attacks, rarely bothering to use their wings to strike. Against intelligent foes, they will especially focus on using smoke claws, drawing great pleasure from inflicting the greatest amount of pain before finally finishing their target off. When facing an individual or group easily capable of slaying them, they will refrain from attacking unless attacked first, and escape in smoke form at the first opportunity.

Belker Lore

Knowledge (the planes)
DC Result
16 This demonic looking monster is in fact a belker, an elemental creature from the Plane of Smoke. This result reveals all elemental, air, and fire traits.
21 In normal combat, a belker attacks with its claws and bite. However, they can also take on a smoke form (much like using the spell gaseous form). In this smoke form, a belker can engulf a victim, forcing them to inhale a portion of the belker's essence which then solidifies into a claw within the victim and starts to attack them from within.
26 Though not a demon, belkers are undeniably evil. However, they tend to be reclusive creatures that have no or little interest in the affairs of others. When belkers do show interest enough to communicate with others, they usually use the Auran language.
